Izco

Sunday we said goodbye to Susanna and Michael, who were traveling by bus from Sanguesa to Pamplona. They've been great walking companions, and we've learned much from our conversations. Their 'Camino spirit' and zest for learning has been inspiring!

We joined Ana and Joaquin for the walk to Izco. Ana, like Joaquin, is an artist and works in oil and ceramics. She also does murals and custom tiles using her own kiln (annetterotter.es).

Leaving Sanguesa by the Rio Aragon

A Spanish local was taking her dachshund out for a stroll.

At a 'rest stop' we chatted with Australian walker Scott who has been walking different Camino routes for over two months. He's on his way to Lourdes.

In Navarra wind turbines are starting to appear along ridge lines. Spain is the 4th largest producer of wind power.

Scott warned us that the path near Izco was a long muddy stretch with sheep tracks. After plodding though this section we finally saw the sheep.

Grates help to keep the sheep contained within one area.

Izco's albergue was next to a pelota game court. Joaquin called the hospitalero's telephone number listed on the door to have her come and open up the building for us. As we waited it started to pour.

Although there was no tienda in Izco, the albergue had its own cupboard store where pilgrims could purchase food for dinner and breakfast.
